Tom D'Angelo

The work represents a series of work inspired by John Cage and the nature of chance operations. It starts with a "Cage" guitar box; 4 strings tuned to C-A-G-E, in a found box filled with randomly sized, precut pieces of wood. All of the pieces fit inside without any manipulation to size or adhesion to the surface. From the process of creating this box, fitting the scrap wood inside the box, a "chance" composition was created on the floor by leftover pieces. This composition was photographed, then transfered onto wood using white glue. This process was repeated. Each transfer, although relatively identical, shows subtle differences as a result of the process. On the table a spontaneous composition was created by emptying a container of excess woodcuts from other projects.
