St. Michael's Cemetery

Directions:
Take East Fifth Street east from campus to Hayes Street
Pass through stop sign at Hayes Street and continue up hill to base of cemetery

Make a left turn and park on the right side along the cemetery

Notes: A bit of a steep incline to the summit, but a brief hike. Great view of steel and the valley. No restrooms. Plenty of deer and groundhogs and the usual array of gnats, ants and jumping spiders. Bring bug spray and watch out for poison ivy.

Sand Island

Directions:
From Campus, take the Fahy (New Street Bridge) across the Lehigh River
Make a left at the stop light
Make the first left at the four-way stop onto Sand Island
Park at the tennis courts on the left side.

Notes: The path leads along the Lehigh River to the tip of the island for a nice view of Bethlehem Steel. Cross the bridge over the creek to continue the hike along the canal.
Depending on rainfall there may be some nice spots to work along the river, but watch out for rampant poison ivy. It can also be very muddy along the river. Restrooms are located adjacent to the tennis courts.
